NWA 14869 Diogenite melt breccia

NWA 14869 is a fascinating HED achondrite belonging to the Diogenite melt breccia group. This rare meteorite was purchased in Talsint, Morocco, in January 2022 and classified by A. Greshake (MNB).

The meteorite consists of many small light brownish fragments, some showing traces of fusion crust. Its texture reveals an achondritic melt breccia made up of zoned low-Ca pyroxene crystals reaching up to 3 mm, with lesser amounts of magnesian pyroxene, olivine, and calcic plagioclase. These are all set within a recrystallized melt matrix rich in zoned pyroxene and feldspar laths.
