Collection: EL Chondrites

EL Group Enstatite Chondrites for Sale

Enstatite chondrites are a major class of primitive meteorites defined by their highly reduced mineral assemblages, sub-solar Mg/Si and refractory/Si ratios, and oxygen isotope compositions that plot near the terrestrial fractionation line. They contain little FeO and are rich in Si-bearing metal and sulfides of elements normally considered lithophile — making them among the most chemically exotic meteorites known to science.

What Makes EL Chondrites Unique?

  • EL Group (Low-Iron): The EL chemical group is distinguished by moderately large chondrules averaging 0.6 mm in diameter.
  • Metal-Rich: Contains approximately 10 vol% metal, which is Si-bearing (~1 wt% Si) — a hallmark of extreme reduction conditions.
  • Extremely Reduced Mineralogy: Features a unique assemblage including ferroan alabandite ((Fe,Mn)S), a sulfide mineral rarely found in other meteorite classes.
  • Cosmic Rarity: EL chondrites formed in one of the most reducing environments in the early solar system, preserving conditions unlike anything found on Earth.

Each specimen comes with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and is ideal for collectors, researchers, and educators seeking a scientifically significant piece of the early solar system.
