NWA 15971 – Pallasite Meteorite
Northwest Africa 15971 (NWA 15971) is a rare and visually stunning Main Group Pallasite meteorite, acquired in 2022. This specimen belongs to the most well-known and scientifically studied group of pallasites—meteorites believed to have formed at the core-mantle boundary of ancient differentiated asteroids.
NWA 15971 features beautiful, rounded olivine crystals (up to 4 mm) set within a weathered iron-nickel metal matrix enriched with troilite and schreibersite. These striking textures and mineral compositions make it both a collector’s treasure and a valuable specimen for planetary science. Despite some weathering, the preserved silicate-metal structure tells a story of cosmic formation and deep planetary processes.
